I am searching for the cwo2 who ran the r-3 division. I found chief deaton in summerville south Carolina and waren brookshire  and billy jack gage and i hear Chief  voshell off the hunley ius there as well.
I had the best times of my life aboard the Holland . For me the guys were like family. If any of you search for david Heintz he died about 5 years ago of lou garricks disease or from something from the asbestos. many of our ships mates passed on. Sorry to hear they are gone will miss them.
I seek Al quarta  if he is still alive.
I  am seeking the ships roster from 1971 to 1973 if anyone might have a copy
I have a few pics if anyone wants copies, these I got from Bruce Hughes  who was also in the r 3 division
to those i served with , I salute you. who has pics of the sangria shack in rota? I have a couple pics  of a couple bars that don't exist any more. spme of my ship mates I am ashamed to say are ship mates. warren brookshire took blacks off me  whilethey were beating tyhe hell out of me on another ship the hunley then refusedto admit the incident took place after my head was caved in  . That's not whati calla loyal ship mate and it was all kept quiet within the division.Dont worry it didn't happen ion the Holland  that was the Hunley as 31  that ship suckked

I sailed from Norfolk, Va on the USS Holland and entered Holy Loch Scotland in November, 1981. My wife and 4 children joined me in the early Spring of 1976. We spent a short time at the Ardtully B&B, before moving into an apartment in Waverly Court. Eventually we moved to Sandbank. Of all the duty stations during my 20 year career, Scotland was enjoyed the most and my wife has always said that is the one place she would like to return to for a visit.
We met a lot of nice people there and we enjoyed playing darts at the CPO club and we still stay in touch with Fritz and Sandy Cunningham.

My tour aboard WGT was rigorous, challenging, exciting and fulfilling. I was there when we won the first Battenburg Cup for being the best ship in the Atlantic Fleet. We also won a Navy and Presidential commendation and two Battle E's.

Read my article online about my memories of that memorable tour.

I came onboard after my tour on a PBR in Vietnam and I am looking for my best friend Don Driskell from Texas. On the one in a million chance that Don sees this (or someone who knows Don), please ask him to email me at: mekongdelta69@hotmail.com

[I originally signed this guest book on 7/4/10 (which is on p. 36 as I write this). Since I don't want to repeat everything I said all over again, if you (Don) see this, just go to that page - or whatever page it gets moved back to, to see my original comment. It'll bring back a bunch of memories.]

Thanks

I came to the Holland from the Orion. I'd been to Charleston for the Orion yard period and liked the area. The 2nd Ex wasn't wild about it. That's why she's the 2nd ex. Just prior to the Holland going to Guam, I pulled a stinky, and got transferred to the Alamogordo. I knew going to Guam would have been a really bad move. By 96, I was retired and divorced, so going to Guam might have been good for me after all. Fast forward to today, here I am retired, a cancer survivor, warm, vertical and self propelled. I visit Charleston once in a while but its not the same as it was, when we were much younger. Some might remember me, I was a Mess Decks MAA. No one knew what to do with me as they weren't expecting another EN-1. While there, we managed to win 2 NEY awards  back to back and were in contention for the 3rd.

Comments:
The HOLLAND was my very first duty station after 'A' School, I was a dumb Mississippi hick, 18 years old, when I landed in Rota. Everyone told me; NO ONE ever gets more than 2 years aboard a Tender, who would have thought I would serve on this ship for nearly 8 years. (May-'65 till Oct. '72) I was the 'spare parts petty officer' for Shop-38 and went from E-1 to E-6 before leaving HOLLAND.  As fate would have it, I rejoined the HOLLAND in Jan, '78 in Holy Loch, where I served as CPO in charge of Shop-38. I remained with HOLLAND until Dec. '79, giving me nearly TEN of my TWENTY years aboard our beloved AS-32. This ship holds a special place for me, it was my 'home' when I was but a zit-faced lad, and I literally 'GREW UP' aboard the Holland.  But, as all things must, she shall now join the march to oblivion. But those of us who hold her near to our heart,  and our very psyche, will remember her always..
