Comments: Scotland was my first tour out of A school, being from Florida I was not prepared for the snow and horizontal rain. Became friends with a lot of good people, and had great experiences on board. The trip back to Charleston was cool, as was the round the world trip (not Gitmo though). Enjoyed shark fishing with the mooring lines on the trip back from Holy Loch. I also enjoyed Diego Garcia, that's where I worked the shack on the beach. Skate job. Got to be the conning officer for a watch and rescue a man overboard ( the dummy I found out ) and burned something in the engine room at the same time so we sat in the water for 2 days for repairs (black balled). The shipyard was a whole different life. Will be going to the reunion in Jacksonville in July. Look forward to seeing old shipmates (hopefully) and meeting new ones.
Comments: Just looking for old friends and old divers. Pictures are good too.
Comments: The Years have passed, but I still look back and remember the greatest group of guys I served with!! The duty stations and the ports we visited. Four years on the Holland are all pleasant memories for me because of of the people on board.
Comments: Would like to hear from anyone who served with me in the repair division.
Comments: Rota was great! I wish everyone well. If you get a chance and would like to do something for your country today, check into Operation Free.

Comments: was stationed aboard the holland for 2 yrs, in rota were some of the best times of my life, was onboard when the holland was in a major storm off the coast of holland, was one of the most scariest experiences of my life.
Comments: Served as Division Officer in both the Inside and Outside Machinery Repair Divisions.
Comments: I remember that rough crossing to Rota looking into the machineshop and seeing the lathe rolling around the deck. Also banging on the wall of the foundry
Comments: The best memories of my 20 yr career was on the USS Holland.
Comments: I was wanting to attend the reunion in Jax. but it appears that Paulette and I will not be able to. Our youngest daughter has been called up for duty (Naval Res.) in May and we may have to be available to help with her children during the day. We have a Grandson in the navy on board the USS Dwight D Eisenhower CVN69 that is one of her sons. We are still not totally out of the reunion thing though.
Comments: USS Holland was my first sea duty tour. Loved the world cruise and absolutely loved Australia. If any of the old MT's are still alive, shoot me a note.
Comments: When I served onboard I became known as the "UA" kid. Just want you guys to know that I did straighten up after my service and I have had a great career as an engineer at Boeing/defense systems serving our warfighters. ![]()
