Comments: Couldn't believe how much I missed the "old tub" after I got out in 77. Holy Loch was great. Would like to go back someday. Miss the fish & chips and pints of Tennants..
Comments: Hey Holland Family, Remember the Black History program we gave underway in weapons dept space (below deck) w/Capt Skip Bowman, I still have photo's if any participants like to view, and what about the Xmas party in Guam the first year of arriving. Without a doubt, one of the best times in my life to date. I work in FT Belvoir, VA DOD, US Army, Night Vision Lab. Look me up in the global address directory(AMC). I now live in Maryland. Comments: Had a great time when i was onboard, Chief Flowers was a big help when i sometimes slipped....lololol
Comments: I would not change a thing about my first assignment in the Navy. I boarded ship in July of 76, went to work in the Chief's mess for almost 4 months before moving into the Switch room. I remember EMC Estes and IC1 Haney and IC2 Musser had lead and we stood watch on the XY telephone switch and main electrical generator switch aboard the Holland. I learned to play guitar from James Reed (JR) and I saw where he recently passed this last year in a car accident down in Texas. I had lots of great friends (Bob Garland, Wayland McClelland...T-bone, James Reed-JR, Tom Wenning, Greg Howard-Mo, to name a few) and will always remember the great hikes we took and the adventures we went on in the beautiful Scottish country side, plus the wonderful music we played and the great people we met. I transferred to the USS Puget Sound in early 1978 and finished my hitch in late 1979. The stay aboard the Holland was one of my greatest memories...great time, great people and great beer...cheers to all!

Comments: I recently found out that while stationed in Guam we were exposed to alot of toxic chemical and no one told us. There has been a constant clean up of these chemicals even today. I have been very ill and started searching for answers this how I found this information. The chemical I am referring to are agent orange, mustard gas and others. As you all you Guam is a historical war zone. When then earthquake happen 1993 these chemicals were released into the air more than ever. You can fine all this information your self just by googling war buried chemicals on Guam

Comments: Being stationed aboard the USS Holland was the best experience I had during my Navy career. We were all one big family who always looked out for each other. If not for patience and guidance of everyone I would have never earned my ESWS.
Comments: I met some of the finest people in the Navy here! And some of the worse. Joe Babin, what rock are you hiding under? I guess the same one as P.J. Tobias. |
