Had a great time. Made many friends. A fantastic part of my life. Would love to hear from anyone from this time frame.

My uncle (Eric M. Hopley) was a Commanding Officer from August 12, 1965 to August 8, 1966, just looking for anyone who new my uncle as I have been going through some of his old items and came across an old lighter with the ships information engraved on the side.

thanks for reviewing,

Eric V. Hopley

Served under Captains Badgett, Smith, and Hurt in R4 repair shop. WO Barnhardt was the best! WO Rossi was a first rate prick. FWIW, I despised my tour of duty on board the Holland. I joined the Navy to see the world, not sit in one spot for years at a time. As an electronic repair tech I loved the work I did.
In the end, the USS Holland only did one good thing for me. On the celebratory night of becoming a one-digit-midget (in Holy Loch) I got plastered, hauled back to the ship in leg-irons and handcuffs, and promptly decked the officer standing in front of me when the hand cuffs were removed. The next day I was given a choice: Courts-Martial or a new recovery program. I gave it some thought and took the program. There, I was introduced to A.A. It took nine more years to get sober, but 25 years later I'm still sober and grateful for that decision.
I see absolutely no names in this roster that I recognize, and very few in the same time frame.

As an ET3 when I 1st got on the ship some officer told me to fix a SPA 4 (radar repeater) that was blowing fuses as soon as powered on and the only test equipment aboard was a Wiggins. (Electricians use to measure AC Power).

Both tours were great. The first when the Hunley replaced them in Holy Lock and I crossed decked to the Holland, second day there I was sent to the MAA division and ended up extending there while in the shipyard. The second tour was more fun, picked up in Charleston and was on board for the trip to Guam, stayed for a while. The second tour I was in W-5 until it was combined with W-2 and then phased out. Ended up being the LPO/Assistant DivO for W-2 over Gunner Mates. Go figure.

Enjoyed my time on the Holland, running the ship's CCTV system.  Nice visits to Plymouth and Bergen.  Still have my tat that I received in Glasgow.  Revisited Dunoon in 2000 and the place looked empty without the Holland, Los Alamos, and thousands of Americans.  I talked to several townspeople that said they missed us (pub owners I think).

I was  proud to serve on the USS-Holland AS-32. Most of the time we worked our butt off, but in return when their were no Boats to work on our Warrant Officer would let us have liberty on the beach. I worked in the Outside Machine Shop X38A with a very good and  knowledgeable crew with outstanding leadership in the shop.
I think about it often, about the work, the guys I worked with and so forth.
I've always wondered where and what happened to everybody when they ended up at the end of their tour of duty.
