Comments: my wife Joyce and our 4 children enjoyed our stay very much. It would be our choice of stations where we were in my 20 years that we would like to visit.
Comments: My wife and I had an apartment in town. I had a Fiat 750. My son was born in Rota.
Comments: I served on six ships in my 20 years the Holland was my second Ship, and to say what ship was the best, Well there is only two good ships in the Navy, The one you just left and the one your going to, But I will say the Best Division Officer I ever had in 20 years was Mr. CWO Day, He got me and Myers out of more s--t than any body in our lives, How Bob and I made our 20 years with out him I don't know, Thanks Mr. Day And I want to thank all my ship mates on the Holland for a good tour of duty, HTCM Robert E. Myers, HTC Gary Lee Bowman, DC-2 Housanbeck?? DC-3 Booth, SF-3 Bollas, SF-3 Miller, Sorry if I forgot anyone, Remember I'm 64 now and can't Remember S--t. All and All the Navy was Good to me, And I loved Sea Duty, Shore Duty Sucks

Comments: While on board I worked on the ship and small boat radar systems, KG-13 crypto and Univac DCT9000.
Comments: It's amazing working all those hours loading the storerooms with supplies in charleston before going to Rota, we still found the time to go on liberty. Had great times in Rota with Leffel, Ants, and Laroway. Would not give up those memories for anything.

Comments: I was on the original shakedown cruise and served onboard in Rota, Spain until February, 1966 - having completed a 4 month extension to my 4 year enlistment due to the Vietnam War escalation.
Comments: I had the greatest time of my life while aboard the Holland in rota. Damned near married a spanosh girl. Sorry now I hadnt. I believe knew MM3 Crawford and hung out atthe shangria shack with him some. I am searching for the CWO 2 who headed our shop in R#3 division,he married a spanish girl . hE CAN ANSWER A lot OF QUESTIONS THAT I HAVE . mUCH OF WHAT WE WERE EXPOSED TO ON THE HOLLAND WAS CLASSSIFIED NCLUDING THE MISSILE DROPPING ON THE DECK AND NUMEROUS RADIATION LEAKS AND EXPOSURES. mANY OF THE CREW HAVE HAD VARIOUS DiSEASES THAT STEM FROM THE CHEMICALS AND RADIATION. Your records are fine.It was investigated and only records before 1957 were scortched.the GOV decided to use it as a scam to shut you off from proving claims. This is fact. And time Veterans stood up and were heard loud and clear about it. I have been livinga nigtmare withthe VA . nearly killing me lliterally many times , botched operations, and you name it. Then claiming it never happpend inthe VA. and claiming injuries suffered on board ship which are in records never happened Hell i spenta month in the hospital in rota with hepatitus and they say it cant be service connected. its on file. Anyone know of a good lawyer who can fight thesethings? I tell you if you email me i will tell you detaiiled stuff the VA has pulledand i have it all in writing . The loly stuff they pull on veterans is crimonal but we cant punish them cause they have imunity from prosecution.so far they opwe me 250,00 in back pension benefits after i was approved for non swervice connected pnsion. They have created over 250,000 in debts for me that i dont owe. claiming i got bebefits i never got and could not until recetly prove i didnt recieve. I have had my financial records senttothe VA every year by the state department and alady inthe va put me 140.000 in debt for not filing financial statements andi could not fight her. Though the ste dpartment said they had sent them in i was still called a liar. i had a gerge byrd call Hong kong embassy where i live and tel them to have me call him,. this for my service connected pension,, he told me onthe phone to set up apointments with civilian doctors for pension exams wwhich i did and thati would be reemburese , it was a lie .even befotei got the reports that cost me 2000 usd back to him by fax he disaproved me along with mr Wilson his boss for setting it uyp myself.I comp;alined tothe president about this carp. it got me nowhere.I am about toput a hit on the sob. Ihave it all in writing and in emails from the Geourge byrd himself tothe embasy and to me. Top that with the VA making 450,000 in tort claims disapear when even the surgeons and doctors who treated me were wiling to testify for me.ANF i had afederal alwyer present in the hosptital wheni was told they destroyed alll my x rays wwhich could have proven my case forthe paast 35 years. they recycled them.and my gf ho is a federal attorney sdaw me poissed for the first time.i could have killed them. She is now a buddy of obama named terry hoetzel a authpor of the homelnd security act. dont trust anyone in the governm,ent. She quit me because i had tooo big a mouth about our government and she was a VA attorney and ssi lawyer. as i said dont trust anyone Guys expose everything youknow its the only ay to fight back and get your rights. My spine was injured while aboard the Holland and it didnt catch up to me until right afteri got out damned near was a cripple. My back was allout of alignment from falls don ladders and collisions with closed hatches falkls off ladders onthe helo deck repairing capatains gig. They scanned my head and found dead spots in it where i had concussions on board ship. Yu guys kow whati am talking about. civilians inteh VA have no idea what you talk about. I am hoping to get my tort claims reestblished and get compensation for the damaage the va did to me at least Enough about me. Dont you wish we could turn back the clock 35 years or so? I aam going back to Rota when i can afford another trip and see what has happened to old haunts. I am Now Chris Bass. I had my identity stolen medical history everything and ihad to go thru the GOV to get it straight. I have my grandfathers name. I hope that all whop were on the holland wwill join here and let it all out. So many of us ish for the past aND DEAKL WITH A HARSH TRUTH. we live wwith what our experiences were whilein service. We cope as best we can. And yes we need moral support from fellow ship mates . I sure wish you all well. I miss the days aboard the holland .Cheif deaton wwas hard but still alright. Ihated the rubber and plastics shop but lived with it. Now thati amout and away from it i learned thaat many of the agentsand chemicls did lots of damaage to many sailors and they dont even realize it cancer and nerve diseases lung diseases digestive tract diseases from inhalation of fumees You guys should read more. luckily there are doctors out there who kow what you went thru because now civilians have those same problems. By the way there are thousands of beautiful pinays and indonesain andf thai women here ripe forthe picking as wives. They dont carethat i am 57 years old only that i can love them and they dont have to go back to a life we would never be satisfied with. if you reallywwanta wife youlet me know and dont be afraid to trave;l to meet them. in central ona sunday you walk among thousands of beautiful omen.many are still virgin at 40 years old.i no that for fact, then again many arent too hhahaha.. bye for now Joe? chris |
