I was fresh out of boot camp. Of course I was assigned to the scullery, but I got to talking to the guy who was in charge of us and told him I had just got my barbers license. He took me straight to the crews barbershop and I spent the rest of my mess cooking time cutting messcooks hair. After messcooking time I of course stayed in the barbershop. I finally got moved up to the officer's shop. I have a lot of good memories of that time. Of course working in the shop I met almost everyone on the ship at one time or another. I was there right at 2yrs and got orders to NMCB-62 which was based in Gulfport Ms. I went on a deployment with them to Diego Garcia in 1972 and got out in 1973.

Was there for the "ASL" tours by XO Lindsey and was a part of Holland becoming the WGT. Except for losing Dan Walton after the first steam generator inspection - it was all GOOD. Went back to Holland as the MPA in Jan 91 and took her to Guam - left two days after getting there (couldn't stand the thought of working for Shannon any longer than absolutely necessary - served with him at another command and called my detailer the day I learned he was coming to Holland as the engineer). She was a good old ship!!!!!

Scotland was an awesome country to see and tour I met many friends there and wish someday to return there for a visit.

I supervised the Medical Treatment Area "Sick Call" on Holland and spent a lot of time in Repair 5 during drills! Would like to reconnect with former shipmates.

God bless everyone who ever served. Also, an officer aboard was killed in either 71 or 72 and his body was discovered in an old well across from the officer`s club in Rota. Was that ever solved?

I enjoyed most of my time on the Holland with the exception of the final few months when all heck broke loose and my Commander retired and I....... well lets just say I was out of the Navy within a few months after he left!!!! "NOT MY CHOICE"!!!! I have a family, We are doing very well in life and hope everyone else is also doing great I cant remember to many names but if you remember me drop me an email love to catch up with some people!!!
