No Department / Division / Shop : Navigation on the USS Hunley Comments: The USS Proteus was a converted WW2 submarine tender to serve FBM submarines. The USS Hunley and USS Holland were converted from Exxon tanker plans to be FBM submarine tenders. The USS Canopus and USS Simon Lake were the first FBM submarine tenders designed and built from the ground up as FBM submarine tenders. All five ships had an impressive record tending what was then our countries first line of defense, the nuclear powered FBM Submarine.
