I reported to Site 1 1981 and left the Holland Oct 1983. I stayed in the Reserves until retiring Oct 2008. I am fortunate to have served on board Holland. That experience of working hard and having pride in your work served me well through out my Navy career. It was interesting to see so many changes take place over the years.   I also served on the USS Frank Cable (AS-40) in Guam. It was good times, but it wasn’t the Holland! Oh how, I miss the good old days! I’m always looking for old Ship Mates from the “Holland Days”

Reporting to Ingalls Shipyard in Pascagoula as a member of the nucleus crew in March '63, I worked with MR1 Don Callis and ET3 Fred Chapman to build the half-hull model of the Holland and the tended SSBN alongside while the ship itself was under construction.  I also designed the ship's original patch.  When the ship was moved to Charleston, for final fitting out and commissioning, I, with other members of the nucleus crew taught "school of the ship" classes to other precom crew members to acquaint them with features of the Holland.  After commissioning, we were welded into a crew during RefTra in Guantanamo.

Upon arrival in Rota, we were kept busy tending our squadron of "boats".  The NavShop had great leadership, as many of our senior petty officers had converted from other rates, but to a man, this was fine collection of hard working sailors.  This crew and their work ethic was probably responsible for my decision to make a career out of the Navy.'

My wife and I truly enjoyed our time in Rota, where we lived on the local economy, our daughter was born, and we got to know many of the locals.  We cherished our travels to Seville, Gibraltar, and the many small towns in the Andulusian region of Spain.  I have many fond memories of this wonderful ship, the original crew, and the many friends we made during this tour.

Outstanding site.  Glad to be aboard.  I enjoyed my time spent on Holland especially Scotland.  I still keep in touch with several old shipmates and hear from them once in a while.

Joined Holland in Scotland. Enjoyed the tour there, wish I had went there when I had a chance back when AS-19 set up the site. As all sites it was a lot of work but that was how the it was taking care of the SSN & SSBN a lot of work.

I truly enjoyed my time aboard the Holland, as well as my time in Rota.  I especially remember the trips to Torremolinos, Seville, and the camp outs along the beach at the lighthouse at Trafalgar.  I have made so many friends since I attended the first USS Holland reunion in Corpus Christi, TX and haven't missed one since.  I enjoy the work I am doing as the USS Holland AS-32 Association Treasurer.  I hope to see many former shipmates in Concord, CA this year, 2009.

I enjoyed all the time on board and all of the friends that I
made while on board. I enjoyed all of the liberty ports that we
made.  The radio gang was the best ones that I worked with
the whole time I was on active duty. I would enjoy hearing from some of the radiomen sometimes. I would do again if given
a chance. Thank You for all of the good memiores U.S.S.

Got onboard as an ENFA too much partying and card playing. We landed in some really great liberty ports, A true to life experience what a ride, I would gladly do that part of my life over again and not change a thing, We had a great crew back then and guess what we still have a great comraderie going on with the association. Please join us in the honor of what we were there for.

Came on broad the Holland when it was in the Charleston Naval Shipyard in August 1975. Was with the MAA dept for 3 months, then went straight to 2nd Division after we arrived at Holy Loch as a deck hand, to me was not that bad at all. I just loved working the outdoors especially in Scotland. Sure it was hard work, but just being tghere was a thrill.Got Certified to be  a Cargo/Missile Crane Operator, Weapons Handler.I remember when we pulled an all-nighter on the starboard after cargo crane pulling up 24 batteries on a submarine from their top side torpedo hatch. Also when we replaced a screw from a sub along side.Boy nothing but brass...The USS Holland was the Best Duty Command on ship that I ever had in the Navy. What a Vacation......
