Wow!!!  The time spent on the Holland was great.  Met a lot of great people.  It's been 20 years since I first set foot on the Holland and I am still in touch with three people I served with.  The trip from Charleston to Guam was awesome.  The time served on the Holland is one of my most memorable times.  Where are you Robin (Vann) Callahan, Chip Jones, Richard Schad, Carmen Goodwin, Sonya Carlisle, Marshall, Sinclair, Roman Linton, and others I served with that the names aren't coming to me at this time?  I would love to hear from you.

My time on the Holland was great. I wouldn't change it for anything. I met good people.  Standing 6and6 was tough though.
Loved snorkeling in some of the best waters in the world.  Thinking back I wished I had done more of that than burning paychecks in the Jungle.  I want to thank all shipmates for my great experiences on board and I hope all is well with you and yours.

I was transferred from the floating dry dock USS Oak Ridge in early 1971 to the Holland when diving billets were deemed unnecessary on the Oak Ridge.  I was on the Holland until just before she left Rota for Charleston.  Short of Diving School at Little Creek, and refusing my three requests to go to Nam, it was the best thing that happened to me in the Navy.  Worked with a great bunch of guys in the Diving Locker, “Yaki” Pete Gervorkian, Ben Lackey, Mike Fomby, Chuck Pennington, John Strahn, (and several who’s names escape me) and of course Chief Nelson.  What a great bunch of guys to work with!  We worked hard, did our job keeping the Boomers ready for patrol, and we played hard!    I spent four years in Rota, on the Oak Ridge and the Holland, during which I took leave and went home to get married.  My wife, Darlene spent two years with me in Rota.  We lived in Rota for about a year before moving to RGH near Porto De Santa Maria.  My son was born in Rota.  We spent a lot of time touring Spain and took 30 days leave to tour southern Europe.  One of the best times of my life!

It all seems so surreal now; sailing in the South Pacific, taking tours in Japan, Hong Kong, Singapore, etc., living on an island... So glad I have the memories!

This was my first ship right out of A-school and boot camp, so I was assigned mess cooking for six months in the CPO quarters.  After that I was finally assigned in 31A inside machine shop.  Met a lot of good friends and went to some very memorable places in Scotland, England and Europe.  I still think of the Holland in a favorable way, even though I worked my butt off while stationed there.

I am seeking information about a female that was murdered during the early 1990's.  she was stationed aboard the USS HOLLAND while it was moored here in Charleston, SC.  Her case is still unresolved and I am seeking any information her prior shipmates might have regarding her disappearance.  Call me at 843-764-7780(office) 843-296-2805 cell. The USS Holland was an amazing place. I met great people and had great friends. I remember my time in the pit and sometimes actually miss it. The people I worked with became family and I think of them often.

Spent 5 years, 7 months and 27 days on board the World's Greatest Tender.  Started in Holy Loch, left in Charleston.  I wouldn't trade the time spent on the Holland for anything.  Really cool looking at all the photos.
