Hello, I am filling out this form on behalf of my father (who is computer illiterate), Former E-5 Joseph Paul Pocorus aboard the USS Holland durring the middle 1970's. My father was a machinist who worked in the engine rooms of the ship as well as repairing submarines. He spent some time stationed in Scotland (Near Denun) and in Bremerton Naval station, Washington state.

He holds the trade of Machinist to this day, in the civilian sector. he has worked in Aero space, Rotoblater R&D and several other jobs as a machinist.

I WORKED WITH A GREAT CREW.  THOUGHT ALL THE NAVY WORKED THAT HARD.  THE HOLLAND WAS MY FIRST SHIP OUT OF "A" SCHOOL.  I WAS LUCKY TO GET ORDERS TO HER.

Did pre-commisioning detail. Took her to Rota and rotated back stateside to H. W. Gilmore after berthing her stern-to. Still cherish my plankowner certificate and color photo of her. Have my comissioning Zippo lighter (engraved) to this day.

I was assigned to the Holland when it was still in Mississippi at Ingels Ship Building.  I missed the commissioning because I was TAD in Holly Lock on the USS Hundley.  I got back in time for loading and the trip to Rota.  Quite a trip with a storm in the Atlantic.
