Comments: Well looking back after all these years being in Scotland from 1977-1981 was probably the best time of my life. Youth might have had something to do with that not to mention a copius selection of young lassies. (ITS TRUE). I really miss some of them to. Seriously if you were there during that time you know what I mean. I think that time period had to be the best, and yes Ethington you did cut my hair. You were the best barber the ship had. The Discos were raucous with Saturday Night Fever music blaring out of P.J's and other local spots. We also had our home grown Country and Western band with Petty Officer Peoples heading up the group. There was also a great cook on board named Bob Toole who married a local girl. I was with him when he met her and they are still married to this day. Her name was Christine. I have so many memories of Scotland I can't get them all down today, but if you were there during that period we had a bond that held us together being so far from that states and working our asses off together. The Holland truly was the World's Greatest Tender, and the people that served on it made it so.

I heard they may tow the old girl to Texas to be cut up. Since I'm in Texas I will have to go see her for the last time. If anyone knows when that will be please E-Mail me.

Comments: Had a great time in Scotland. Lots of TC jobs kept us very busy. Wonderful country to visit and would love to return with the wife someday. I got off while in Diego on the E5 early out program. Loved working on the boats up in the sail. Wouldn't trade it for any other life experience.

Comments: THE "WORLDS GREATEST TENDER" AS STATED BY XO CDR LINDSEY BECAME A FACT. LONG HOURS OF WORK LIVING IN A COUNTRY THAT WAS 50 YEARS BEHIND TIME HE EMPHASIZED PRIDE AND PROFESSIONALISM. CAPT WIGGLEY BACKED THAT IDEA AND THE CREW RESPONDED. WE WERE THE BEST AMERICANS THAT EVER STEPED FOOT ON SCOTTISH SOIL. I WORKED FOR CWO M.A.ROSSI HE TOOK PRIDE IN THE SHIP AND HIS PEOPLE. HE WAS AN ASS TO WORK FOR BUT IN LATER YEARS I LEARNED HIS METHODS PROVED TO BE RIGHT. I'M PROUD TO HAVE SERVED ON SUCH A COMMAND. LT. BARRY J. SHARP USN RET.
