i guess one of my fondest memories was when being frocked to et1 and the captain asking what my plans were. i said I'm getting out of the navy this week. he didn't like my answer very much. Scotland was an adventure.

Best Tender Ever. Best Crew and Best Duty Station ever. I was priveledged to start my Navy Career there. Although no where else and no other crew ever compared there-after.

First ship of the three I served on. Made third class in Rota.  I was assigned to the USS Oak Ridge ARDM 1 on a "sand blasting part" when one of the guys (TMSN Gerrney sp?) on the second shift came to relieve us and told me I made third.  I thought he was joking because the rate was overloaded.  I ran into Gerrney three years later on the USS Hunley AS 31; he was doing reserve duty at that time.  Made trips to Trafalgar, Gibraltar, Seville, and Lisbon.  I don't want to elaborate, however I am sure many guys in W1 remembered this certain TMC who held inspections at morning quarters; lots of gigs.  Went onto subs after I left the Holland.  Does anyone remember Mr. Robert Rayan (LDO LT, our division officer and WO2 Joe Ayacock (sp)?  Two of the best officers I served with.  Great web site

Arrived in Charleston for duty on the Holland just in time for Hurricane Hugo (1989).  Now those were some rough seas!  I've been living in Charleston ever since.
