No Department / Division / Shop : Operations then R4 Comments: I remember the ship quite fondly but never saw the twin boat and missile cranes that replaced the wAY top-heavy central one the ship was commissioned with. I still have my Plank Owner lighter, although the lid broke off MANY years ago. We had a nifty shakedown cruise, visiting San Juan, Kingston, and Gitmo.
I never had a day off. I was in operations 'til we were on-station, then I transferred to R4! LoL Very thankful for having been transferred to R4 under Lt. Dudley and Chief McQueeny! They really helped me along! I was a boot E4 when I can aboard and went up to E6 on their watch. I had to repair a SPA-4 before the ship was even provisioned with spares, tools, or test equipment!

Got out and went straight to building nuclear power plants for the Navy. GI bill gave two degrees. Then worked 23 years at TMI & OCNGS nuclear power plants. Moved on to petro-chemical industry. Finished up teaching NDT to multiple industries at highest levels of international certification. Most of all some life long friends who could talk all these years like it was yesterday!
