No Department / Division / Shop : Damage control was duty ship fitter and damage control Comments: While I was a board the Holland we had a boiler blow up. Luckily, it blew up the stacks and not out into the engine room almost took us off-line. when I read about the whole one after she was decommissioned, they never mentioned that all the shit footers worked around the clock fixing the stacks between the two boilers so we can start a boiler back up. I was disappointed that they did not mention that out of the shop they called me the shipyard welder if you know what that is work with a Lotta nice young men some I will never forget some I kept in touch with some are long gone. She was a fine ship and she had a fine crew and I had a chief and E9 tooth , by the name of Shaw, and I am better off in life knowing this man God bless all the young men and women who serve on the Holland when I was in there were no young women on her then but then again, I’m not too far from 90.
