No Department / Division / Shop : Electric Shop Comments: Served as Electrician aboard Holland 1964-1967 in Rota, Spain and Charleston. Operated the big crane and refitted the boats tied alongside when they came back in off patrol with busted pumps or motors, valve actuators, etc. Stood watches in the electrical control room overlooking the rear engine room. Switching engine-generators was generally done on the midwatch and looking out over the engine room at those big Fairbanks-Morse diesels was a real treat. Seems like there was always a diesel tech guy on board to keep that ship running. Sometimes we would go to sea from Rota on sea trials with a refitted sub, generally acting as a target for practice torpedo runs. When a dummy torpedo would hit the ship it would certainly get everyone's attention.

No Department / Division / Shop : Supply S-2 Food Service Officer Comments: Had my plate full (no pun intended) with the Cooks and Mess Cooks. I spent more time at XO's & CO's Mast than I did looking after the Food Service Division. Took the ship from Charleston, SC to Bremerton, WA. We had a lock down inspection for contraband en-route and the biggest stash of pot was found over an oven in the bakeshop. Overall, it was an interesting and enjoyable tour. I retired with 23 plus years in the Navy.
