No Department / Division / Shop : Operations/Navigiation--Bridge Comments: I came aboard the Holland in Charleston in January 1973. There was a big snowstorm that day when the ship arrived at Pier Alpha at the Weapons Station.. There were no line handlers present when the tugs escorted the ship up the Cooper River. I was TAD at the Weapons Station when a Chief came running into the chow hall and said, "The Holland is being held at the pier by the tugs, and there's no line handlers." Myself and four other guys jumped into an old WW2 wyllis Jeep and flew to pier alpha. Captain Badgett sure was pissed. The Holland had just came back from Spain. About fifty new guys came aboard that day. I'll never forget the snow. It was a foot deep and blowing like crazy.
